  • Tahun 1939 : Konrad Zuse menyelesaikan ZI, komputer pertama yang dapat diprogram. Digunakan untunk menghitung. Di tahun yang sama John Atanasoff, seorang profesor dari Iowa State University dan muridnya Clifford Berry membuat Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC)
  • Tahun 1943 : Pemerintah Inggris menyelesaikan pembuatan Collosus, komputer yang memampukan Inggris menyadap Tentara Nazi
  • Tahun 1944 : Profesor howard Aiken membuat Mark I
  • Tahun 1945 : John Mauchly dan J. Presper Eckert menghasilkan ENIAC - Electronic Numerical and Computer

Perkembangan Hardware :Edit

Perangkat keras komputer berkembang cepat, hanya dalam beberapa tahun komputer yang berukuran besar dan mahal menjadi barang berukuran kecil dan lebih murah. Dimulai dari penemuan transitor pada tahun 1948. Transitor menggantikan tabung vakum dan membuat komputer lebih kecil, dapat diandalkan, dan lebih mudah.

Tahun 1971, Intel mengembangkan microprocessor, chip silikon tunggal yang mengandung semua komponen yang diperlukan komputer. Penemuan ini luar biasa penting karena microprocessor dapat diproduksi massal dan bahan bakunya yaitu silikon dapat diperoleh dengan harga murah. Karena ini Daerah San Jose di California disebut Lembah Silikon, karena disana belasan perusahaan pembuat semikonduktor tumbuh dan berkembang.
